The Sayings of Wotan

Pro Color

Pro Neg Hi is one of my preferred color sims. I’ve made a couple of recipes using it. It provides a superior palette to Provia, more contrast and vibrance than the related Pro Neg Std, less natural warmth than Astia, and isn’t as saturated as Velvia. It is considerably more vibrant and naturally contrasty than Eterna (which has a very subdued palette that I actually quite like). Finally, it is more vibrant than Classic Chrome while being less naturally contrasty.

Two of the recipes in my current rotation (1/18/2023) are based on Pro Neg Hi: Real Color and this new Pro Color Recipe.

I usually add a lot of saturation to Pro Neg Hi; it gives me a very vibrant look for times when Velvia is too much. For Pro Color, I decided to reduce the saturation slightly. The result of reducing the saturation and the white balance offsets gives this recipe, at least to me, a somewhat retro look. It’s more evident in some scenes than others. I think the retro look is especially evident in this shot:

The image seems to on an overall slight green tint, reminiscent of, but not as drastic as, my first-generation Old Film recipe, which was based on Pro Neg Std.

As with Versatile Color, I created a lot of samples, far too many to show individually. Please enjoy the album.
